Height of fashion!

For most of her life, Natalie Matthews struggled to find clothes that fit.

Standing 190 centimetres tall (6"3'), the British woman, who now lives in Melbourne, said she felt insecure about her height growing up.

At the tender age of 14, she taught herself how to sew her own clothes simply because there were no options around.

As she reached adulthood, Natalie, originally from Kent in the UK, noticed how clothing manufacturers in Australia seemed reluctant to cater for tall women.

And so the now-33-year-old has launched her own clothing business Height of Fashion after she saw an opening in the market amid a lack of tall fashion options.

'I come from a tall family so I've always been tall my entire life,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

'At 10 years old, I was exceptionally tall in school, I remember standing out from the group. I was taller than the boys at that age.

'I felt really insecure. When I hit high school, I noticed how different I was from my peers. I was called nicknames like dangly or Big Bird.'

But as she got older, the-then teenager started joining a lot of sports, in which she said helped with gaining self-confidence.

'Weirdly enough, I got into sports and it really helped with confidence. Then I realised there were a lot of advantages of being tall and different,' she said.

'I was able to play basketball, netball and tennis. I excelled at accepting my height and I learning to love and embracing it.'

With hardly any options around for clothes, Natalie started sewing her own garments, including two gowns for her school's leaving ball.

'I learned to make my own clothes,' she said.

'I sewed a leaving ball gown when I was 16 and another one at 18.'

But after leaving school, finding clothes proved to be difficult.

'I would go to bridesmaids shop and there would be no dress for someone who is 6"3'. Every dress I tried on would look frumpy on me,' she recalled.

When she moved to Australia in 2013, she noticed there were hardly any clothing options for tall women.

'I saw how little clothes options were here in Australia,' she said.

'Stores across America, Europe and the UK have options but there was not much shipment to Australia.

'I saw a niche here and I wanted to create something sustainable to help tall women in Australia.'

'Born from my own struggle to find anything to fit me, I understand how tall women can feel insecure about themselves,' she said.

'I know how women can shy away from expressive themselves in fashion because they are exceptionally tall.

'Too many tall women are feeling frumpy with bland fashion available but I want taller women to feel empowered by stylish clothes and to feel sexy.

'I'm breaking the mould here and to really challenge high street fashion to cater for all all sizes.

'There's lots of plus size clothing but I think they have forgotten about the tall women.'
